Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool

Having secured their first silverware of the season with last week’s win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, Liverpool took a giant stride towards another trophy with a 3-0 win over Southampton in midweek. They had to ride their luck early on in that match, but that was understandable as they started the match with six players aged 21 or under. Indeed, it has been impressive to see how Klopp has rotated his squad to cope with the absence of more than half of his best starting eleven. But it would still come as a relief to have some of the more experienced players back for this game, and that is what might happen as the trio of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Dominik Szoboszlai are expected to be back in time for this match.

Despite the strains of their recent injury problems, Liverpool have still managed to put up a good run of form. In fact, they have won 5 of their last six games away from home in the Premier League. They won four of those five by two goals or more, so they will come into this with some confidence. And that confidence will not be misplaced as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in the midst of a wretched run that has seen them win only once of their last eight games in all competitions. Their midweek FA Cup loss at home to Manchester United means they have lost five of those eight games. Of even more concern is that the City Ground is no longer the fortress it was at the end of last season, with Forest winning only four home games so far this season.

Despite their recent struggles, Forest have somehow managed to keep scoring goals. They have scored in 11 of their thirteen games at home this season to it will not be far-fetched to expect them to notch on Saturday. And with Liverpool expected to have Salah and Nunez back in attack, we feel that an away win is the most likely result from this game.

Manchester City vs Manchester United

Manchester City will look to close the gap on title rivals Liverpool when they play host to their city rivals on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s men dispatched United with some comfort in the reverse tie at Old Trafford in November, with Erling Haaland’s brace helping City to a 3-0 win.

Sunday’s hosts will be confident of another victory here, especially with Haaland having returned to full fitness over the past few weeks. His five-goal haul in Tuesday’s 6-2 victory at Luton in the FA Cup was a sign of player and club hitting clinical form at the right time in the season. That win was City’s 16th in their last eighteen games in all competitions, and they now seem to be setting themselves up for that all too familiar second-half of the season surge that almost certainly sees them emerge as Champions. Guardiola also has Kevin De Bruyne back fully fit after a lengthy absence, and his partnership with Haaland will have United quaking in their boots. De Bruyne laid off the assists of four of the five goals Haaland scored at Luton, and both players have a history of giving United plenty of trouble in recent years.

Haaland, in particular, will be of serious concern to Erik ten Hag and his defence. He scored a hat-trick in this fixture last season to add to the brace he scored in the first leg earlier in the season. Manchester United may have managed to progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in midweek, but that result has not stopped the fact that Ten Hag is under immense pressure. They put together a run of five straight wins in February, but all that was brought to a shuddering halt with last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Fulham. The manner of the defeat, rather than the result, will be of more significant concern to Ten Hag as it was the latest in a long line of terrible performances from the Red Devils.

Even in games where have won, they have struggled to take control, and teams have always seemed to have a chance against them. That loss against Fulham saw United become the side that has faced more than 16 shots in a match the most times in the league.
